Flu cases among children are rising earlier than usual this year and health experts are warning that this season could be particularly severe. Latest UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) data shows flu activity is three times higher than this time last year, with a sharp increase among school-aged children. Flu is not just a bad cold. It can make children very unwell and is more likely to lead to complications such as pneumonia, bronchitis and ear infections. In severe cases children may become so unwell they need to be admitted to hospital. Children with long-term conditions like asthma or diabetes are at even higher risk. Flu can trigger asthma attacks and make diabetes harder to manage, increasing the risk of serious complications. ❗️Why vaccination matters The nasal spray flu vaccine is quick, painless and the best protection against flu for children under 16. Vaccinating your child not only protects them but also helps stop flu spreading to vulnerable family members, such as grandparents or babies. Our year 5 and 6 pupils went on a school trip to Kent Life on this week to learn all about the Stone Age. The children learnt about farming, weapons, cave drawings, beliefs and burials and had a go at grinding grain to make flour. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip and consolidated their learning from our history topic. The group also had the opportunity to go on a tractor ride and met some farm animals during the day. 😊

This week Pyrenees class was interrupted during a writing lesson by an urgent letter from the big bad wolf. 🐺 He had lost his diary, prompting the students to follow a series of clues around the school to find it. Children will begin to learn how to write their own diary entries like the big bad wolf in the following weeks.

This years' Anti-Bullying Week theme, 'Power for Good' has come about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes. We will be using the Anti-Bullying Alliance resources in school this week to focus on how we can actively use our Power for Good, and what we can do to stop bullying. #AntiBullyingWeek #PowerForGood

On Tuesday 11th November, our children commemorated Remembrance Day. We held a two minute's silence at 11am, sold poppies and other merchandise to raise money for the Royal British Legion and l took time to learn about and remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

Pyrenees class have been focusing on the book ‘little red riding hood’ this term. They have learned a version of the story and have now began to change some details to make their own versions. Children then worked in small groups to act out the story and retell this in their groups. Next the children will use their adapted ideas and write their own versions of ‘little red riding hood’.
